large scale French flower artist Claire Basler

I first came across the art, home and studio of French artist Claire Basler in Elle Deco back in 2010 when she was living in an amazing old ironworks on the outskirts of Paris…

Since then she has moved to a chateau, Castle Beauvoir, with her partner Pierre where she works on her wonderful paintings surrounded by flowers and plants…

Her work often reminds me of a refined Cy Twombly.

I especially love this one on silver gilt…

Large painted screens showcase her work in many of the chateau’s vast rooms…

The chateau had been abandoned. I love that some of it remains a little shabby…

Some of the rooms are more polished, but even a beautiful old castle can be home to the odd Ikea lampshade or two!

As you might expect from a flower artist, flowers are in abundance in every room…

A simple row of yellow poppies in old glass bottles sit in a kitchen window. I love the buttery coloured old walls…

Even the bathrooms are flower-filled…
